Can you tell us a little about the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Psychologie Mathématique?

Founded three years ago, my institution currently has some 60 students. Our students come from all over the world (Morocco, Russia and Canada, for example) and are studying for bachelor’s and master’s qualifications as psychological practitioners.

What is your latest news?

I’m currently finishing a book on values. It follows books on doubt, dreams and internal laws. I wish to show that, in these times of pandemic and environmental crisis, we need to demonstrate discernment. For example, in this book, and in a series of international conferences, I will be talking about the distinction between pleasure and satisfaction and arguing for the reinstatement of satisfaction at the expense of pleasure.

What are your upcoming plans?

I plan to get more involved at the FEDE by participating at FEDE academic conferences and General Assemblies and by leading DBA seminars as a guest teacher. Speaking of the FEDE DBA, it is now on offer to my students. They are delighted.

After graduating from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (1991), I obtained several further qualifications: a certificate in criminology (1993), a French DESS in business and tax law (1994), and a degree in business law consulting in 1994.

What have been the highlights of your career?

I obtained the French CAPA (professional certificate required to practise as a lawyer) in 1995. I have 15 years’ experience as a lawyer in Paris. I’m currently associate lawyer at the firm Racine, where I focus on general business law and issues relating to mergers and acquisitions.

And what about teaching?

For the moment I’ve studied more than I’ve taught. I’m currently a contract lecturer at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Appliquées au Droit (HEAD) in Paris.

What have been the main stages of your career?

Having initially worked as team leader for development and cooperation projects funded by major sponsors (largely in the former Soviet Union), I spent seven years as Labour Relations Manager at Thales, where I was in charge of collective negotiations and merger/integration operations. In 2006 I became Human Resources Director at Coteba.

Can you tell us about your current job role?

Following a merger between Coteba and Sogreah in 2010, I became Human Resources Director at Artelia, which is now the leading independent French engineering group, with 6000 staff members. Artelia offers a wide range of services (expertise, project management, project management support, consulting, and more) in the public and private building sectors, industry, the energy sector, the water and environment sectors, and transport and infrastructure, both in France and abroad.

What are your company’s values?

As we are based on employee shareholding, we are totally independent and can choose our own priorities. For this reason, we have decided to focus on today’s foremost values: innovation, kindness and cooperation. The results: ongoing growth, technical prowess and countless shared happy moments. In all our projects, including the Hôtel de Crillon, the Canopée over Châtelet-des-Halles station in central Paris, the construction of the biggest university hospital in Europe, in Nantes, a dam in Lebanon and a number of sites in Morocco, we always strive to apply the latest findings of our research and development department.

Marc Delachaussée, a member of the FEDE Panel of Experts, has just created a committee of experts within his own company!

Its members have diverse backgrounds (law, economics and accounting) and intend to pool their skills to help businesses in difficulty. Inspired by the social economy, the initiative aims, among other things, to help prevent bankruptcies.

Marc Delachaussée is also a teacher at Cergy Pontoise University, where he teaches business finance.

His theoretical and applied activities should soon result in a book arguing for the relevance of an operational and humanist approach to finance.

Jean-Jacques Urvoy is a psychoanalyst, designer, teacher and writer. His latest book argues for a subtle new position in the field of personal development – operational psychoanalysis. What exactly is it?

BOOK SUMMARY

Perhaps you’re aware that something is not quite right in your life, but you keep putting off the decision to act. You have, however, tried various methods, including psychoanalysis and personal development coaching.

What if you combined the two?

Operational psychoanalysis is short and proactive. Face-to-face coaching sessions are organised both before and after the analysis. It has four phases: goals, psychoanalysis, roadmap and supervision. While it does not refute the basic tenets of psychoanalysis, such as the emancipation of speech, exploration of the unconscious, transference and emotional catharsis, operational psychoanalysis is firmly grounded in reality.

The book, which discusses a number of practical case studies, will help you to create your own roadmap to a serene and relaxed way of living.

A member of the FEDE Panel of Experts, Antoine Béon fills us in on his latest professional news.

What is your latest professional news?

I currently manage two publishing houses within Hachette Livre, one of which is Hachette Disney, which focuses on books for young people (approximately 350 publications per year). I also helped create Hachette Heroes, which is dedicated to pop culture in the broadest sense.

Pop culture is a strong part of the publishing industry, right?

Yes, and Hachette Heroes has become the market leader. It mostly publishes illustrated books for adults, focusing on cinema, videogames, literature, music and cooking.

What are your plans?

To carefully consolidate our work so far; since 2020, Hachette Heroes has expanded its catalogue and launched, in particular, a set of Disney novels for adults. We plan to extend our range further still in 2020 and 2021, including via a partnership with Ubisoft. The catalogue will also be enriched with a greater range of boardgames and with the work of some well-known French authors, such as Alexandre Astier.

What did you study?

I have a bachelor’s in hotel management, a master’s in innovation and entrepreneurship, and a doctorate in business and innovation. I completed my doctoral degree at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia.

What is the focus of your research?

Right now I’m particularly interested in design management. I’m exploring a range of methods that might give design a greater role in management.

What exactly do you teach in the FEDE doctoral programme? 

I explore the complex links between the creative and cultural industries and economics. Thanks to my experience working for major brands, such as Bang and Olufsen, and the time I’ve spent in various countries (Malaysia, Great Britain, the USA and others), I’m able to translate what is necessarily theory-heavy expertise into real life and practice.

What is your professional news?

I am working at Eranos on a project to write a book that will be published in early 2021. It is an international survey on the social construction of women’s self-confidence, carried out in 11 countries and financed by L’Oréal.

I am also carrying out several parallel studies on the issue of care, concern and vulnerability of companies, which allows us to rethink the question of commitment (beyond the normative framework of Corporate Social Responsibility), trust and managerial figures (Perrier-Jouët, Axa Prévention, Pierre Fabre, L’Oréal).

Finally, in connection with La Poste, my main work focuses on the digital economy and the theme of the attention economy, the rare resource of the 21st century, from an ethical perspective.

What exactly is the nature of your mission with La Poste?

I have been leading a study for 2 years now on the dematerialization of exchanges, in partnership with La Poste.

The first part consisted in deconstructing the myths of the digital economy (Artificial Intelligence, big datas, apps, etc.) and digital communication by insisting on the importance of the materiality of the mediums and the need for an advertiser to anticipate the effects of these mediums in order to build a communication strategy. In my book on dematerialization, I point out the physical reality of communication media misrepresented as “dematerialized” (Dematerialization did not take place, ed influences 2020).

The second work in progress concerns the attention economy. It is a critical analysis of the attention crisis we are experiencing due to the multiplication of messages and solicitations. The results propose ethical and responsible communication objectives for communicators, putting the question of care at the heart of communication strategies.

One of the objects of your research is the economy of attention. What exactly does this mean?

I am going to publish a book on the notion of attention ecology in 2021.

This project on attention should lead to works to create indicators that would make it possible to build real communication policies. Perhaps this will be in partnership with bodies such as the United Nations.

What is your background?

I have two postgraduate degrees in law (in 1989, University of Paris Nanterre and in 1990, University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne) and the CAPA (Certificat d’Aptitude à la Profession d’Avocat). I am also a graduate of the ESCP (Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris 1992).

What is your current position?

I am a lawyer at the Paris Bar. I chose to practice this profession because I feel empathy for people and also to participate in the smooth running of society. I work in the Pavlik et associés law firm and I am an expert in insurance, accounting law and real estate law.

Do you find time for other professional activities?

I am a lecturer at the University Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, I host a philosophical programme on a web radio, I work as an insurance expert for a programme on Sud radio and I write in various newspapers. I also have a passion for the history of contemporary ideas. For all these reasons, I think I can be useful to the students of the FEDE.

What is your background?

Doctor of Sociology from the University of Paris Descartes, I am a psychoanalyst and currently President of the Association of European psychoanalysts. I am also a researcher at the Centre d’études sur l’actuel et le contemporain (CEAQ).

What is the purpose of your research?

I work on contemporary heroism as it appears in movies and video games. Thus, from a socio-philosophical approach, I explore the myths that are found in films such as Harry Potter, Avatar, or Star Wars for example.

What do you intend to bring to the FEDE?

As a Master’s or DBA student, I could be very useful to students who want to work rigorously and precisely on the game world, on the different families that make up the geek universe, or on digital addiction.
