What did you study ?

I have a bachelor’s in economics and a master’s in finance, banking and markets (Abdelmalk Essaadi University, Tanger, 2015).

What have been the highlights of your career so far ?

I am currently administrative manager for a company specialised in dashboards. Previously I worked as customer manager for a bank and as a customer advisor at the Tanger ferry terminal.

Why have you chosen to enrol in the FEDE DBA ?

The main reason why I chose the FEDE is because it is prestigious and has a great reputation in Morocco. Also, I studied the FEDE’s proposal closely and could not help noticing that it offered exactly what I was looking for: I want to improve my managerial skills and better acquaint myself with new development tools; I think the FEDE’s seminars will help me with this.

What is your research topic ?

Digitalisation and the growth of SMEs in Morocco. In my initial investigations, I noticed that there is not enough theoretical research on this subject; that was a good reason to look into it further, since I’m convinced that sound thought is a prerequisite for sound action.

What did you study and what is your current job role ?

I obtained a bachelor’s in administration, followed by a master’s in human resources management (Abdelmalk Essaadi University). After a number of internships in companies, I now work as commercial attaché for an insurance company. I advise and guide customers on motorbike, home, life and car insurance contracts.

Why have you chosen to study for a DBA ?

During my internships, and in my current job role, I have developed negotiation and agile work skills. I have also improved my patience. These skills have given me a desire to develop my knowledge of human resources.

Is it this that inspired the subject of your DBA ?

Right. I would like to acquire new theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of occupational psychology. Occupational psychology aims to demonstrate that, in improving working conditions and general staff wellbeing, we can boost employees’ performance and help them to achieve their companies’ goals.

We talk to Marylin Camarda, who graduated in human resources from the ESTC. Energetic, versatile and always eager to learn, her unique career path has given her a wide range of skills.

Can you tell us about your studies and your career so far?

I never set foot in a high school! At age 15 ½ I went to study at a CFA (apprenticeship training centre). In two years I had obtained a CAP and a BEP in sales. At age 32 I obtained a BTS in Business Unit Management via the French validation of professional experience procedure.

I then obtained a number of diplomas in security (C.Q.P.A.D.S /S.S.I.A.P 1/C.Q.P A.S.A) and worked, amongst other things, as a security agent at Marseille airport. At the same time, I was also a keen sportswoman and obtained a certificate as federal monitor for contact sports and associated disciplines.

I wanted to start working in the clothing retail sector and got a job with the British brand Superdry. As staff delegate and secretary of the hygiene, safety and working conditions committee within the company, I was in direct contact with the person in charge of human resources, and so I developed skills in employment law. I wanted the skills to be recognised by a qualification so I decided to apply for the Master’s in Human Resources at the ESTC. I was able to complete the programme in two years via distance learning while still working as store manager at Superdry. A year after finishing the master’s, I accepted a post as regional training manager at JD Sport.

What is your current situation?

I’m currently regional training manager at JD Sport. It’s a really interesting role: I travel all around France to manage training for 40 in-store teams. I travel from Marseille to Toulouse, to the border with Luxembourg, to Orleans… I also train store managers (in communications, stock management etc.).

Why did you choose the ESTC to study for your FEDE degree?

Before enrolling in the Master’s in Human Resources at the ESTC, I had already been on an examination committee there. So I knew what the atmosphere was like that. You really have a lot of support from the staff, and I really appreciated that.

How has your FEDE degree advanced your career?

Having my human resources skills recognised by the FEDE degree has increased my professional legitimacy. My experience on the ground, my theoretical skills in employment law (proven by the degree) and my fluency in English were definitely advantages when applying for my current job.

What is your fondest memory of your time at the ESTC?

The support I received from the ESTC team was really important for me. I’d like to mention Delphine, who worked really hard to help me prepare my oral presentations and help me succeed. Also, Brice the IT manager, was always on hand to offer help using the online platform.

What advice would you give to people currently studying at the ESTC?

I think that if you stop learning you are more or less dying… So I’d tell the younger generations to work hard and to keep learning. They are really lucky to have knowledge at their fingertips and to be able to combine learning and entertainment. Seize the opportunity!

Meeting with Loïse Dherbecourt , former student at ENACO, who, thanks to his Master’s in Business Management and Strategy will access managerial posts within her company more easily.

Can you tell us about your studies and your career so far?

I graduated from high school in France with a literary baccalaureate. I then travelled across Europe and continued studying via distance learning. I was bored at school and wanted to discover the world. Thanks to the languages I learnt and my ongoing study,
I was able to work in big companies like Apple, Basf, and so on. In October 2020 I obtained the FEDE Master’s in Business Management and Strategy, graduating from the online business school ENACO.

What is your current situation?

I’ve worked in Luxembourg for four years now. I am project buyer at the country’s leading company – Post Luxembourg.
In addition to my role as buyer, my managers entrust me with regulatory and managerial assignments.

Why did you choose ENACO to study for your FEDE degree?

I was looking for distance-learning master’s programmes in France and I found ENACO and the Master’s in Business Management
and Strategy, which is just what I was looking for.

How has your FEDE degree advanced your career?

Having a master’s degree will allow me to access managerial posts within my company more easily. My managers supported me when I was writing my dissertation and gave me time to work on it. I developed a lot of theoretical and practical skills and improved my professional maturity and expertise.

What is your fondest memory of your time at ENACO?

I appreciated working with my dissertation supervisor, who was very supportive.

What advice would you give to people currently studying at ENACO?

Perseverance is the key to success. It’s a long and difficult process, but once you have the piece of paper stating you have your degree, you’re done: you have achieved something and you can prove it!

Meeting with Johan Trapani, former student at ESTC, who remembers fond memories of this school : the nice atmosphere but also and especially, the quality of his training.

Can you tell us about your studies and your career so far?

Following a BTS in commerce at the Lycée Périer, I did a DEESMA at the ESTC via a sandwich-training contract at Décathlon (Aubagne).
I then did the first year of the Master’s in Business Management and Strategy at the ESTC via a sandwich-training contract
at La Bureautique, a company specialised in the sale of printing systems; I worked there as a technical and commercial agent.
I continued the second year of the Master’s at the ESTC, also via sandwich training, this time as logistics officer at POLI, a company specialised in clothes manufacturing.
After I finished my sandwich training and got my degree, POLI hired me as a logistics manager.
I was promoted to sales exports manager and was in that role for 10 years.

What is your current situation?

After 12 years at POLI, I was hired by Bollé Brands, which is specialised in the distribution of sports accessories (ski helmets, ski sunglasses and ski googles). I’ve worked there as export sales manager for the EMEA zone (Europe, Middle East, Africa and India) since May 2019.

Why did you choose the ESTC to study for your FEDE degree?

The ESTC offered an academic programme that went right up to 2nd year master’s level – which is where I wanted to get to.
I also liked that the FEDE degree is a recognised European degree – that was really important for me. Another important consideration was the possibility of sandwich training. In fact, the institution was able to immediately offer me a sandwich-training contract thanks to its contacts.

How has your FEDE degree advanced your career?

The lessons I took as part of my FEDE programme helped me to translate my theoretical knowledge into practical skills on the ground. I realised that each subject taught in the programme was relevant to my professional work. The degree is comprehensive and has helped me (it’s still helping me) a lot throughout my career.

What is your fondest memory of your time at the ESTC?

I’d say the general atmosphere at the institution. The staff are always available to answer students’ questions. Also, the teachers are really good in all the subjects; in particular I’d mention Mr Pierre Breffeuil, former managing director of Procter & Gamble, who taught our strategy and management classes.
My best memory is obtaining my second year-master’s degree.
It concluded three years of hard work in collaboration with the institution.

What advice would you give to students currently studying at the ESTC?

FEDE degrees are recognised by recruiters. I would recommend studying for your degree at the ESTC because the teachers are really good and you get great supervision from the staff.
The ESTC is a perfect combination of a good qualification, professional experience and coursework supervision.
That’s what you need to be 100% ready for the job market and get a great job.

Graduated from ESTC, Farid Boutouba explains us why he wanted to add the FEDE degree in human resources to his previous studies and how the key skills he developed through the programme enabled him to deeply understand the central role of the HR manager in a company.

Can you tell us what you studied and a little about your career so far?

In 2003 I obtained a BTS in Business Unit Management via sandwich training at the Carrefour Marseille Grand Littoral supermarket. For eight years I worked as a product and services vendor. In 2013 I became intern manager for multimedia sales on the same site.
I managed 10 people and a dashboard covering €8 million of turnover.
From 2015 to 2020 I was transferred to Carrefour Beaucaire and became head of sector. I was responsible for 20 members of staff in the non-food section and was in charge of developing the Drive service and organic section.

I now hope to join the Carrefour Franchise and become a company manager and owner of my own business assets.
But to do this I needed a degree in human resources – that was one of the conditions for being accepted into the scheme.
The FEDE programme is a strong addition to my previous studies. I’ve acquired the key skills needed to manage a company and learnt about the rights and obligations of my future colleagues.

What is your current situation?

On obtaining the degree I applied to the Carrefour franchise scheme. My application is currently being considered by management
at the Carrefour South-East headquarters. So I’m currently a professional specialised in human resources management.
I mostly work in the supermarket sector.

Why did you choose the ESTC to study for your FEDE degree?

I chose to study for my FEDE degree at the ESTC because in 2018 I submitted a ‘validation of previous experience’ application there.
One of the programme managers, Ms Ouazzini, explained that my professional skills could be transferred into academic credits and that my experience could be translated into a level-7 professional qualification in commercial development management.
I really liked the close contact with the teaching team and the personalised supervision on offer at the ESTC, so it was obvious to me that I should do my master’s in human resources there.
The teachers at the ESTC really push their students. They encourage them to develop their ideas fully and have them take part actively in class so as to encourage discussion.
The case studies and professional role-plays provided by our teachers really add to the quality of the course.
My professional thesis was supervised by Ms Mallazon, who did a great job and offered me plenty of guidance. The institution is managed by Mr Taxil and Mr Portal. He and the teaching team are brilliant: always on hand to answer your questions and provide explanations.

During the pandemic, the stress amongst the students was palpable. When the government announced a lockdown, the ESTC quickly (the next day) sent us an explanatory email that was very reassuring. We were given a very clear new guidelines for studying. We were able to continue ordinary lessons using Teams Microsoft. Distance learning meant we were all able to continue our studies.

How has your FEDE degree advanced your career?

The FEDE degree in Human Resources is really thorough and covers a range of really interesting subjects such as employment law, HR strategy and conflict management in the workplace.
The subjects we studied, which combine theory and practice, are really useful in the workplace.
The degree helped me better to understand the essential role of human resources managers in companies and to develop my knowledge of theoretical aspects, which are essential if you want to comply with legislation and increase your professional legitimacy.

What is your fondest memory of your time at the ESTC?

At the beginning of the year, the course administrators and a group of students organised a skiing weekend designed to bring together as many students as possible. The trip was forgettable. It really helped to gel us together as group, and we made lots of friends during our short stay.
The trip helped me better to understand my identity as a student – which wasn’t necessarily easy since I was older than all the others.

What would be your advice to the ESTC’s current students?

I’d advise them to work hard throughout the programme. The programme covers a large range of skills, focussing on skills that are essential if you want to access senior management positions.

Meet Bastien Liebgott, former student at the Ecole Grand Jean who graduated from the FEDE European Master’s in Business Management and Strategy. Constantly drawn to new challenges, he wanted to broaden his field of expertise. His technical IT skills together with his marketing profile enabled him to set up his own company, WEBAST, which combines the two sectors.

Can you tell us about your studies and career so far?

When I enrolled at the Ecole Grandjean, where I got my FEDE degree, I already had a BTS in IT (network management).
At the time I didn’t have a lot of knowledge of areas over than IT and I wanted to add a commercial/marketing/sales dimension to my profile. So I enrolled at the Ecole Grandjean to do a European Master’s in Business Management and Strategy.
When I started applying for jobs, I was able to emphasise that I had both technical IT skills and the business knowledge I’d gained at Grandjean.
I worked for four years as account manager at Bechtle (an IT distributor based in Molsheim). This was a commercial position: I was in charge of managing a large portfolio of clients. My managers quickly learnt to trust me and I advanced very quickly within the company.

What is your current situation?

In 2019 I went to Canada. I was keen for a new challenge and to advance my career in a new direction.
I took courses in SEO (natural indexing), SEM (paid indexing) and website creation. I then found a post as an SEO strategist.
I went on to create an individual business in 2020 (https://agence-webast.fr) I offer web, SEO, SEM and tailor-made website creation services. This is possible thanks to my dual technical (IT) and marketing profile. The business is going well: in one year, over 10 clients have decided to use my services (projects and subscriptions in my field are big ones).
I’m currently both working as SEO strategist and running my business on the side.

Why did you choose the Ecole Grandjean to study for your FEDE degree?

A friend of mine had told me that the Ecole Grandjean was a really nice place to study. I wanted to study marketing and commerce, but I was reluctant to enrol at one of the leading business schools [the French grandes écoles] because I associate them with an arrogant attitude. I prefer a simple, family-like atmosphere that you can find in a smaller, friendly institution like Grandjean. I have no regrets!

How has your FEDE degree advanced your career?

The knowledge of marketing and commerce that I acquired in studying for my FEDE degree were a springboard and have allowed me to develop my career to the full. Indeed, have ended up doing marketing within IT – SEO/SEM.
The marketing course content, and the simple and realistic approach taken by the programme, helped me to acquire the knowledge needed for my current job role and my business.

What is your fondest memory of your time at the Ecole Grandjean ?

I remember friendly relations with the teachers, who would sometimes have a drink with us and who let us into their professional worlds so that we could understand how everything worked.
Another thing I’d mention is the lack of competition: all of the students helped one another and were keen to learn. There was no sense of competition between us.

What would be your advice to the Ecole Grandjean’s current students?

Believe in yourself and you’ll have lots of dreams! You just need to be patient, work hard, study and apply what you learn!

A quick, sunny stopover in Martinique: we meet Ms Nadine Soupama, director of the Private Higher Educational Institution (law, finance and economics).

You offer courses in finance, law and economics. Are your students mostly from Martinique and surrounding areas, or do you offer courses to students from other places?

Most of our students are from Martinique, but we do also attract learners from the surrounding islands and we welcome international students.

Your institution is developing fast. What are your current plans?

In the short term we plan to offer sandwich training that will help meet recruitment needs in Martinique. In the medium and long terms, we plan to offer courses in the ‘Greater Caribbean’ and to develop contacts and exchanges with institutions internationally.

Distance learning is currently on the rise. How are you working with your students in the correct context?

Given the current health risk, we are aiming to digitise all our courses to facilitate both in-person and distance learning. We plan to offer both types of learning.

What is the advantage of FEDE membership?

I am really happy that we joined the FEDE. It’s a great opportunity for our institution, given that it wishes to develop a more international vision. The FEDE also allows us to offer a wide range of additional courses in Martinique. And it has opened the door to Europe and the world beyond Europe. Our values are similar to those of the FEDE: for example, student-focused learning, personalised supervision, the acquisition of workplace know-how through work experience, well-equipped classrooms and leisure areas, and small class sizes.

Last but not least, what are your hopes for 2021?

I hope, like everyone in the education sector, to ensure that young people in Martinique are given solid professional training so as to reduce school dropouts, improve career prospects, develop networking and knowledge sharing, and more.
In 2021 we hope to develop our various projects and to increase the visibility of the FEDE across the islands in the region.

Visual pleasure, aesthetics and the art of living: Jaelys trains students for careers in fashion, interior design and wedding planning.

We meet the lively Lyly Lemêtre, founding director of Jaelys Group and its institutions.

Jaelys is a fashion school but you also offer courses in interior design and wedding planning. What would you say is your institution’s ‘trademark’?

Yes, Jaelys is a higher educational institution focusing on the world of fashion, events and design. We also offer specific training for careers as a brand ambassador, wedding planner/designer and interior designer.

Jaelys was founded 18 years ago by two of us – Jael and Lyly. We are both art directors, colour artists and fashion designers. By combining our two names we came up with ‘Jaelys’.

Jaelys students’ professional projects are conducted on the ground (a big thank you for inviting the FEDE to your wonderful event at the Shangri-La!). In practical terms, how are you managing to organise student projects during the COVID pandemic?

Yes, the strength of Jaelys over the past 18 years has certainly been that our students have the opportunity to work on real-life projects based on the real requests of clients or venues. We are very proud to have our students take part in these exciting projects that allow them to apply their theoretical knowledge on the ground.

In the current circumstances, Jaelys projects are more pertinent than ever! Postponements have given our students an idea of what it is like, as a professional, to deal with unforeseens. They have learned to handle the logistics of a ‘plan B’ in events management. Many are also working on fashion projects with magazines, which is allowing them to have contact with luxury brands. Others are involved in interior design, working in the homes of clients who are working from home.

The pandemic has actually allowed us to be even more available than ever for our students. So Jaelys projects have not stopped: you can see them on Instagram.

Has demand for some of your courses changed?

We are a small institution and, given the reputation of our students’ projects and our great student atmosphere, we always attract a lot of applications: the number has not changed. We receive about 30 applications per month for 20 places per year.

A lot of people apply directly from high school for our intensive three-year bachelor’s.

You have been a member of the FEDE for two years now. What is the advantage of membership?

Networking and professional support on a daily basis. The FEDE also provides our students with valuable knowledge about Europe.

Your institution is currently developing fast and always aims to meet the latest job market needs. Are there any new courses in the pipeline?

We are currently expanding our course catalogues both for our institution and our adult training centre. Some new courses will be announced in 2021.

Our main institution will be offering a masterclass system for our graduates; the idea is to help them develop their technical skills and knowledge.

Nowadays education has to adapt quickly to market demand. Consequently, we are also planning some online courses dedicated to specific subject areas.

2021 has brought with it a new world and new opportunities. What are your hopes for the new year?

Like everyone, our chief hope is that the pandemic will soon end and that our students will remain in good health.

As for Jaelys, I would like to reassure parents who are worried about their children’s future careers, that events management is not going to disappear… The fashion industry is still functioning and during lockdown people actually have plenty of time to think about decorating their homes. Consequently, our three-year bachelor’s programme provides students with a solid course of studies and great future job prospects.

Dr François Venutolo: “Every member of hospital staff – not just health professionals – has played an active role in fighting coronavirus.”

“In fighting the virus, everyone has played their role. Hospital workers – not only health professionals – have shown a great deal of humanity,” says François Venutolo, member of the FEDE Panel of Experts, anaesthetist and director of the COVID-19 crisis at Gonesse Hospital.

Can you tell us about your studies and your current job role?

Following a thesis in medicine, I currently have two specialities: anaesthesia and sports medicine. I have also obtained additional qualifications (disaster medicine) and university diplomas in management and communication. I am currently an anaesthetist (specialised hospital doctor), president of the Medical Committee, head of the Medical Division and director of the COVID 19 crisis at Gonesse Hospital here in France.

We might say that you are a sort of medical ‘Swiss army knife’ since you have so many different specialities. What made you choose such a diverse career?

I’m addicted to education because I love learning and studying and like to be recognised by others; that’s how I ended up with so many specialities. My career has been guided by a desire for ongoing education that, for me, is both a professional necessity and a personal goal. I have to admit that I’m also a bit of an exam-taking machine.

Has your versatility been useful during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Yes, of course. My knowledge of sectors other than medicine has allowed me to understand financial and marketing challenges. But additionally, I’d like to underline to what extent hospital staff – that is, those in logistic and maintenance roles as well as healthcare professionals, – have shown admirable dedication during the pandemic. IT specialists, electricians and catering staff have, just like myself, been on call 24 hours a day over the course of several weeks. I’m really proud to have worked with them.
