Demosthenes Davvetas possède des talents multiples : universitaire, journaliste, artiste, il donne tout son sens à l’expression « trajectoire atypique ». Une chose est certaine : ses recherches en esthétique sont enracinées dans des pratiques professionnelles avérées.

There is no doubt that Demosthenes Davvetas, an academic, journalist and artist, has trodden an unusual career path. One thing is certain: his research in aesthetics is rooted in successful professional practice

Demosthenes Davvetas was born in Athens and studied at the University of Thessaloniki before obtaining a PhD in Aesthetics at the University of Vincennes in Saint-Denis, France.

In the 1980s he worked at the newspaper Libération (art and culture section) and wrote the introductions to catalogues showcasing the work of leading contemporary artists (CY Twombly, Andy Warhol, Basquiat and Joseph Beuys, a friend of his).

In the 1990s, wishing to share his experience, he became interested in teaching and chose to focus on philosophy of art, particularly contemporary art. Professor at LISSA (L’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués [Higher Institute of Applied Arts]), he also teaches the course ‘Poetry and Modern Art’ at Paris Sorbonne University. In the past he has taught at various other universities and art schools including the University of Athens, the University of Peloponnese, the University of Patras and the University of Piraeus in Greece, and, the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris [the Paris Academy of Fine Arts], Strate School of Design and CREAPOLE in France.

Both as a lecturer and a seminar convenor, Demosthenes Davvetas is known for his versatility and his expertise. He has also published numerous specialised books and articles (see inset 1).

Having worked for many years as a contemporary art critic, he has also begun to produce his own works of art, which are now exhibited internationally (see inset 2).

Living between Greece and France, Demosthenes Davvetas is a an artist-philosopher with a passion for culture and education.
